James E. Garr, MBA, ChFC®, CLU® heads the firm’s Retirement and Income Distribution Planning Group. Jim helps employers with retirement plan design to maximize benefits for the company owner and their employees. Jim specializes in working with small employers with limited HR resources to insure the smooth ongoing operation of all aspects of their retirement plan, and helping plan participants save for retirement.

Before joining Three Cord True Wealth Management Group, Jim served for two decades as a qualified plan specialist with the Pittsburgh office of a large insurance and financial planning firm. Prior to that, Jim was a corporate finance and business development specialist for Ladbroke Racing Corporation, a gaming and hospitality company in Detroit. He began his career in corporate finance with Hyatt Corporation in Chicago. Jim received his master’s degree in business administration in 1988 from the University of Chicago and his bachelor’s degree in 1984 from Cornell University.

Jim lives in Wexford with his wife Lisa. He is a supporter of the Neighborhood Academy in Pittsburgh’s Oakland section, where he has tutored disadvantaged youth. His hobbies include golf, playing guitar and competing in the World Series of Poker every June.
